In 2008, CFAC plans clinics in July and August to reach approximately 1200 children. Care is provided by dental professionals who volunteer their time and talents. Treatment and preventative care includes exams, cleanings when possible, extractions, and the restoration of permanent teeth. Oral health is emphasized through school assemblies and tooth brushing instruction. HDRP returns to each site every two years to deliver continuous care for the children we serve.
In 2008, Guatemala Dental Relief plans two dental camps in Guatemala -- departing the US on July 25 - returning August 03 and departing August 2 - returning August 9th.
The second clinic has been filled by students and professors from University of Colorado Health Sciences Dental School.
Additional dental camps are planned for both January and July 2009.
CFAC is hosted in Guatemala by the Behrhorst Foundation, a charitable organization serving village children and families in Guatemala for the last 40 years. Clinics reach primarily indigenous children in the 60 highland villages served by the Behrhorst Foundation.
Start up costs for the project are estimated to be $25,000 to purchase portable dental units, generators, instruments and supplies. With this investment, approximately five dentists and three to five hygienists can work together during intensive six-day mobile clinics.
The Project began with dental clinics in Nepal and is now, through the support of sponsors, in four countries including Ladakh, India, central Vietnam and now the highlands of Guatemala.
